Backpack Hydro

Add this one to your Christmas lists already. At $3,000 it’s not cheap (and probably out of the reach of most undeveloped nations, where it might do the most good) but check out this gorgeous backpack hydro generator.

To use it, you simply tether either side to a fast moving stream, with the rotors facing into the moving water and – presto – a place to plug in that microwave. The military one has a cool version that can be set up completely underwater. Yes, please.
